Original Warner Bros. Lobby Card Set. (11×14). Very Fine.
This is an original Warner Bros. Lobby Card Set of eight cards for Elia Kazan’s dramatic masterpiece, EAST OF EDEN (1955)—starring Julie Harris, James Dean, Raymond Massey, Richard Davalos, and Jo Van Fleet. This was James Dean’s screen debut as the neurotic and troubled twin son of the Bible-reading lettuce farmer Massey. His performance was so riveting that he was nominated for Best Actor, the first posthumous acting nomination in Academy Award history. Dean had been killed in an automobile accident in September 1955 at the age of twenty-four. Other Academy nominations included Best Director for Kazan, Best Screenplay for Paul Osborn’s adaptation of the popular John Steinbeck novel. Jo Van Fleet was nominated and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as the mother of the twin brothers, who becomes a successful madam in Monterey, California. This original and complete lobby card set of eight is in very fine condition.

This is an original Warner Bros. Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Robert Altman and George W. George documentary, THE JAMES DEAN STORY (1957)—narrated by Martin Gabel. Made shortly after his untimely death, the film makes use of still photographs with narration and interviews, including Dean’s aunt and uncle who raised him after his mother died when the boy was nine years old. Here his “rebel” side is seen more as an expression of loneliness and search for acceptance. This iconic original three sheet poster is in fine plus condition.

This is an original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the George Stevens western masterpiece, GIANT (1956)—starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean, and Mercedes McCambridge. Based on the novel by Edna Ferber, this sprawling epic of a Texas cattle rancher and his family and associates spans many years, beginning with the newlywed couple and following them into their middle age. Taylor gives one of the strongest performances of her career, and James Dean delivers the final performance of his too short career. The cinematography and production design are consistently beautiful. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Award—including Best Picture, Best Actor for both Hudson and Dean, and Best Supporting Actress for McCambridge. The film won the Best Director Oscar for Stevens. This original one sheet poster is on linen and in very fine plus condition.

The cinematography and production design are consistently beautiful. Also a much-loved score by the great Dimitri Tiomkin. This original six sheet poster is linen backed. It has had small chips out of the border area repaired and color touch-up to all the fold lines. Otherwise, the overall condition of the poster is fine.
