John Wayne fell ill during production and was hospitalized for two weeks. Indeed, the actor would never make another movie and died of cancer three years later. Although not nominated for an Academy Award, many critics consider this to be his finest performance. This original Paramount one sheet is in very fine condition. Art by Richard Amsel.
THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954) 13899
Original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Very fine plus condition. Vivid colors. No missing paper. Minimal touch-up to fold lines.
This is an original Warner Bros. One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the William A. Wellman action adventure, THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY—starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, and Robert Stack. This is the granddaddy of all the disaster movies that became so popular in the 1970s and is based on the best-selling novel by Ernest K. Gann. The story is about a commercial airliner that develops engine trouble on a trans-Pacific flight. When the pilot (Stack) looses his nerve, it is up to the washed-up co-pilot (Wayne) to bring the plane in safely. But each character on this flight is so wonderfully developed that you can remember clearly even the minor characters with the smallest parts. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Director for Wellman, and Dimitri Tiomkin won the Oscar for Best Musical Score. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with vivid colors, no missing paper, and only minimal touch-up to the fold lines.
THE QUIET MAN (1952) 19389
Original Six Sheet Poster (81×81). Very fine condition.
This is an original Republic Pictures Six Sheet Poster (81x81) for the John Ford romantic classic, THE QUIET MAN (1952)—starring John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, and Barry Fitzgerald. John Ford bought the rights to the story over a decade before and tried to get every studio in Hollywood to make it. Finally, Republic agreed to do it on the condition that Ford first make a John Wayne cavalry picture, RIO GRANDE (1950). THE QUIET MAN tells the story of a disgraced American boxer (Wayne) who retires to Ireland where he meets Mary Kate (O’Hara) and falls in love. Wayne delivers one of his best performances as a regular guy with real feelings and emotions. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It won the Oscar for Best Cinematography and Best Director to Ford. This original six sheet poster is in very fine condition. We regard the six sheet as the best U.S. poster on this title.

3 GODFATHERS (1948) 19363
Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Beautiful artwork by Tomaso. Linen-backed. Very fine condition.
Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the John Ford classic western, 3 GODFATHERS (1948)—starring John Wayne, Pedro Armendariz, Harry Carey Jr., and Ward Bond. This is a tale of three men (Wayne, Armendariz, and Carey Jr.) who rob a bank and are trying to avoid the local Marshall and his posse. In the wilderness, they find a woman who has just given birth. She is dying and pleads with the men to take care of her child. The “three godfathers” decide to do their best by the new born and set off across the desert. This film was a remake of the silent film THE THREE GODFATHERS (1916), which starred Ford’s long-time friend Harry Carey. After Carey died in 1947, Ford decided to remake the story in Technicolor and dedicate it to his memory. Also Carey’s son, Harry Jr., plays one of the three godfathers. This beautiful, linen-backed three sheet poster with great artwork by Tomaso is in very fine condition.
THE ALAMO (1960) 19364
Original United Artists Roadshow Todd AO-marked One Sheet poster (27×41). Some pinholes, minor wear and soiling. Very fine condition.
Original United Artists Roadshow Todd-AO marked One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the John Wayne western epic, THE ALAMO (1960)—starring Wayne, Richard Widmark, Laurence Harvey, and Frankie Avalon. Filmmakers have attempted the story of the Texas Freedom Fortress several times, but this 1960 movie filmed in the Todd-AO process is the most famous and arguably the most enjoyable. Certainly most Texans think so. John Wayne directed himself and a good cast in the myth-enhancing version of the Texan settlers’ battle against Mexican authority. An entire community was built in Bracketville, Texas to stand in for early San Antonio and the most of the film was made in Texas. With Richard Widmark as James Bowie and Laurence Harvey as a dandified Colonel William Barrett Travis, the film also pays some homage to the Hispanic Texas settlers who figured in the epic battle. The film rested almost entirely on Wayne's shoulders, but his old mentor John Ford also showed up on the set and was given some second-unit work. One of the most enduring things about the film is a lovely melodic score by Dimitri Tiomkin. This stunning one sheet, with artwork by the great Reynold Brown, is the very rare Todd A-O Roadshow poster. It has some pinholes in the corners, very minor wear and soiling, but overall is in very fine condition.

Wayne plays the playboy son of banker Barlow who wants the boy to grow up and join the family business. When he goes to foreclose on a minister, he falls in love with his pretty granddaughter (Knapp). He wants to marry her, but he must first convince his father that the girl is not a gold digger. This original Showmen's Pictures scene card shows the "just married" tagged car with John Wayne in the driver's seat, Evalyn Knapp as the bride-passenger and with child actor Rentschler behind. This particular scene card is scarce and in very good condition.
