THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951) 17871M
Original United Artists Six Sheet Poster (81×81). Near Mint.
Original United Artists Six Sheet Poster for the John Huston romance-adventure classic, THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), with truly brilliant performances by Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. This is the story of grumpy, gin-swilling roustabout Charles Allnut (Bogart), who is running a little tramp steamer with supplies to small East African villages at the onset of World War I. When German troops invade and destroy Hepburn’s missionary village, Allnut offers to take her on the Queen back to civilization, but not before carrying out a rather daring plan to blow up a German warship. Based on novel by C.S. Forester, the outstanding adaptation by James Agee and Huston was packed with unforgettable exchanges by Hepburn and Bogart and infused throughout by Huston with hilarious tongue-and cheek satire. One of the most popular movies of 1951, it was nominated for Best Director for Huston, Best Screenplay for Agee and Huston, Best Actress for Hepburn, and Best Actor for Humphrey Bogart (which he won). This original six sheet is in near mint condition. Movieart will sell no reproductions.
SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER (1959) 2187
Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Good.
This is an original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Joseph L. Mankiewicz dramatic classic, SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER (1959)—starring Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, and Montgomery Clift. Based on a play by the very successful Broadway icon Tennessee Williams, the screenplay was skillfully adapted by Gore Vidal. Set in New Orleans in 1937, Hepburn plays a lady of means who is mourning the loss of her son. She wants to donate a million dollars to the hospital where Clift is a doctor if he will perform a lobotomy on her niece Taylor. The young woman has been traumatized by what she witnessed last summer. Tennessee Williams never forgave his own mother for letting his sister Rose have a lobotomy to “cure” her anxiety problems. The whole story turns on the character of the son Sebastian, who is never seen in the film. Supposedly, dead of a heart attack, the audience finally discovers that he was murdered by a group of youths because of his homosexuality. Both Taylor and Hepburn were nominated for Oscars. It was the eighth nomination for Hepburn and the third nomination for Taylor. This original one sheet poster is in good condition with some tears in the border areas. THE TROJAN WOMEN (1971) 4883
Original 23-page program (8.5×11) with 32 photos. Good condition.
This is an original 23-page program for the Michael Cacoyannis adaptation of the ancient Greek play by Euripides, THE TROJAN WOMEN (1971)—starring Katharine Hepburn, Vanessa Redgrave, and Genevieve Bujold, and Irene Papas. Euripides was the most popular poet of the ancient world, and this play is a stunning indictment of imperialist aggression at the time that Athens was fighting Sparta in the Peloponnesian War (431—404 B.C.). The play captures the extreme pain and anguish of the women of Troy after the city has fallen to the Greeks. The women weep over their lost city, their dead husbands and sons, and their lost honor as they are led away as Greek slaves. This is certainly one of the most powerful anti-war films ever made at the time of the war in Vietman. This rare program has 32 photos, a director’s note, biographies of all major actors, actresses, and director Cacoyannis. This original program is in good condition.
THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951) 20179

This is an original United Artists Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the John Huston romance-adventure classic, THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), with truly brilliant performances by Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940) 16413 1955R
Original MGM 1955 Re-Release Half Sheet Poster (22×28). Folded. Good plus condition.
Original MGM 1955 Re-Release Half Sheet Poster (22x28) for the George Cukor classic romantic comedy, THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940)—starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart, and Ruth Hussey. Katherine Hepburn had been famously labeled "box office poison" by the exhibitors after several of her films in the late thirties had turned out huge flops. But the right property, the right cast and the right director combined to make THE PHILADELPHIA STORY her "comeback" vehicle. Not that she had ever really gone away. THE PHILADELPHIA STORY had been a popular play on Broadway, and Hepburn was prescient enough to buy the film rights for herself. It actually plays more like a film from the previous decade than the forties -- witty, elegant, democratic, disdainful of pomposity. This re-release half sheet from 1955 needs some small amount of work, but is available for a fraction of the price of any 1940 poster. And the graphic is great with good images of the three main players. The poster is folded. Good plus condition. Has some marker on the reverse side which has bled lightly to the front. This can be fixed. We recommend paper-backing for this poster. MovieArt can help you with suggestions for restoration.
