Original Republic Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the William Witney 12-episode serial, SPY SMASHER (1942) starring Kane Richmond, Marguerite Chapman, and Hans Schumm. While many film critics consider the "serial" to be the bastard cousin of the feature film, this serial has received many accolades, including "the finest serial ever made" and "the Citizen Kane of serials." Adapted from a popular comic book, this serial has some of the best-choreographed action scenes and astonishing stunts. Alan Armstrong (aka Spy Smasher) battles a Nazi villain known as "The Mask," who heads a gang of saboteurs determined to spread destruction across America. This film was made during the dark, early days of World War II and intentionally summons up the righteous courage of early war propaganda films. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition. There is some repair in the lower left background image and repair of a tear in the lower left corner.
