WHEN WE WERE KINGS (1996) 19795
Original Gramercy Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Rolled. Very fine plus condition.
This is an original Gramercy Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Leon Gast boxing documentary, WHEN WE WERE KINGS (1996)—starring Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. This excellent documentary is about the boxing match between Ali and Forman for the World Heavyweight Championship in 1974. Ali was 33 years old at the time of the fight and considered by many to be washed up, but Ali pulled off an amazing upset and knocked out Foreman to begin another championship rein. Perhaps the best part of the documentary is at the end when they play the song “When We Were Kings” and show a montage of Ali’s fights during his amazing career. This original one sheet poster is rolled and in very fine plus condition.
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962) 9977
Original Universal Pictures Six Sheet Poster (41×81).
Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Robert Mulligan dramatic masterpiece, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962)—starring Gregory Peck, Brock Peters, Mary Badham, Phillip Alford, and Robert Duvall. Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, this is the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era Alabama town, who defends a black man against an undeserved rape charge and his kids against prejudice. The story is told through the eyes of a feisty six-year-old tomboy named “Scout.” Although certainly not the first film to explore the experiences of children and their own personal growth, the film stands out because of he sheer honesty and natural performances of the child actors portraying these rich characters. The American Film Institute recently named the character of Atticus Finch the number one hero of all time. Indeed, Gregory Peck won the Oscar for Best Actor and always said that Finch was his favorite role of his distinguished career. The film was nominated for seven other Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Horton Foote won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for his outstanding adaptation of the Lee novel.
SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL (1969) 18247
Original Very Rare Silkscreen Special Poster (34×47). Very fine condition.
This is an original silkscreen Special Poster (34x47) for the Jean-Luc Godard documentary, SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL (1969)—starring The Rolling Stones and narrated by Sean Lynch. Known as ONE PLUS ONE in Britain, this documentary intersperses scenes of The Rolling Stones recording their landmark anthem for the very popular Beggar’s Banquet album with various late 1960s counter-culture movements and organizations like the Black Panthers, an African-American revolutionary organization, with special attention on heroes like LeRoi Jones and Eldridge Cleaver. The film had no distributor in the United States, but a theater owner in Ann Arbor wanted to exhibit the film. There were no promotional materials available for the film; so, the exhibitor, who had some experience in poster production, decided to create his own poster for the film. Originally a press run of around 100 copies of the silkscreen were produced, but today only a few copies have survived. This very rare original silkscreen special poster is in very fine to near mint condition. Several of these have been auctioned recently, but none have enjoyed this superior condition. New Line Cinema reproduced the poster for its initial distribution after acquiring the rights, but those posters are printed differently and lack the panache of the original edition.
MAU-MAU (1955) 6996
Original Rock-Price Productions Window Card (14×22). Near mint condition.
This is an original Rock-Price Productions Window Card (14x22) for the Elwood Price exploitation documentary, MAU-MAU (1955)—narrated by NBC newsman Chet Huntley. This supposed documentary shows the rise of the African resistance movement known as “Mau-Mau” against British rule in East Africa in the early 1950’s but in reality was an opportunity to show as many bare-breasted African women as possible. Director Price took the completed film to most of the big studios and television networks, but they all rejected it. Finally, he took it to exploitation legend Dan Sonney, who marketed it as an “outlaw” picture—one that was “too hot” for Hollywood. This original window card is in near mint condition.
HIGH YELLOW (1965) 3326
Original Thunder Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Very fine condition.
Original Thunder Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Larry Buchanan exploitation drama, HIGH YELLOW (1965)-- starring Cynthia Hull, Warren Hammack, Kay Taylor, and Bill McGhee. This film is about a seventeen-year-old light-skinned black girl who tries to pass for white. One of at least two different styles from the original release. Posters for this exploitation film may have been printed differently for different regions of the U.S. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

Original All-American One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Very Fine.
This is an original All-American One Sheet Poster for the Josh Binney all African-American musical, HI-DE-HO (1947)—starring popular and high energy bandleader Cab Calloway, Ida James, and Jeni Le Gon in a film about jazz, jealousy, night clubs, and gangsters. Though the plot is thin, the musical and dance numbers, especially by Calloway and his amazing band, are quite wonderful. Calloway and his band show why they were first-class musicians, as well as, first-class entertainers. Also featured are Dusty Fletcher, Lois, the Peters Sisters, and the Miller Brothers. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition-- with only some minor touch-ups and minimal restorations.
CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK (1930) 7804
Original RKO Jumbo Lobby Card (14×17). Very Fine.

Correll (Andy), and Russ Powell (Kingfish). The movie featured the very talented Duke Ellington and the Cotton Club Orchestra; indeed, the film was credited with introducing Ellington to white audiences. Most people did not realize that the characters of “Amos ‘n Andy” were all white comedians imitating the voices of black men on the radio, but the contrivance was undone when the main characters appeared in “black-face” in the movie. This original jumbo lobby card is in very fine plus condition.
CARMEN JONES (1954) 17930
Original 24 Sheet Poster (9ft x 20ft approximately). Very Fine Plus.
This is an original 20th Century Fox 24 Sheet Poster (108”x246”) primarily used for billboard advertising for the Otto Preminger musical, CARMEN JONES (1954)—starring Harry Belafonte and Dorothy Dandridge. This unique film is a contemporary version of the Bizet opera with new lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and an Oscar-nominated score by Herschel Burke Gilbert with an African-American cast. Even though Belafonte and Dandridge were both accomplished singers, their singing voices were dubbed in the film by LeVern Hutcherson and a young Marilyn Horne. The Oscar-nominated performance by Dandridge in the title role is the most memorable feature of the film. This original 24 sheet poster is in very fine plus condition. This poster is BIG and is printed on multiple panels. Very rare.
