This fascinating war drama takes place in the 15th century during the Hundred Years War between France and England. Joan of Arc is a maid who leads her country in a time of war. But her religious visions are denounced and she is put on trial, condemned as a witch, and burned at the stake. Bergman was totally immersed in her role and absolutely radiates "purity." Unfortunately, just as the film went into general release, the scandal broke about Bergman's affair with Roberto Rosellini and the resulting pregnancy. This unwanted publicity caused the film to tank at the box office, but it did receive much critical acclaim. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nomination for Bergman. The film won the Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design. This original advance one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition, with only two minor fold separations.
