This is the fascinating story of a long lover affair between a wealthy, arrogant, and selfish businessman (Mastroianni) and an ex-prostitute (Loren) who attempts to trick him into marriage by pretending to be dying and then miraculously recovering. Loren and Mastroianni are both excellent actors generally, but their on-screen chemistry is truly remarkable under expert direction and with a great script.
