WHIRLPOOL (1949) 4889
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Otto Preminger film-noir crime drama, WHIRLPOOL (1949)—starring Gene Tierney, Richard Conte, Jose Ferrer, and Charles Bickford. This film is part psychological drama and part film-noir. The beautiful wife (Tierney) of a famous psychoanalyst Dr. William Sutton (Conte) gets caught stealing an expensive pin from a department store. An infamous astrologer David Korvo (Ferrer) comes to her aid and uses hypnosis to make her an unconscious party to an elaborate scheme involving murder. All of the acting performances are good, especially Tierney who does an outstanding job at portraying both the vulnerability and desperation of her character; indeed, the actress used the film as a mini "comeback” after a two-year absence. The black and white cinematography and use of the camera are very good. This original one sheet poster is in very fine condition.
VOODOO MAN (1944) 19647
Original Monogram Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Fine plus condition.
This is an original Monogram Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the William Beaudine horror classic, VOODOO MAN (1944)—starring Bela Lugosi and John Carradine. This is the story of Dr. Richard Marlowe (Lugosi) who uses a combination of voodoo rite and hypnotic suggestion to attempt to revivify his beautiful, but long-dead wife by transferring the life essences of several hapless young girls he has kidnapped and imprisoned in the dungeon beneath his mansion. This was the second Monogram film for Lugosi, and many critics consider this to be his best Monogram film. But while Lugosi delivers a uniformly good performance as the mad doctor, it is John Carradine who steals the show as Lugosi’s dimwitted slave. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.
VERTIGO (1958) 20197
Original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Fine plus condition.
This is an original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller masterpiece, VERTIGO (1958)—starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes. This Hitchcock classic tells the story of a former San Francisco detective (Stewart) suffering from acrophobia who investigates the strange activities of an old friend’s wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her. Hitchcock creates some of his most hypnotic scenes in this film as well as a general sense of unease and dread-- even in seemingly banal situations. Bernard Herrmann’s excellent score is a perfect compliment to this complex and suspenseful story. The score is perhaps more important here than it most films, because much of the story is told simply with Stewart’s and Novak’s facial expressions and the music. Stewart gives one of the best performances of his career, and Novak is completely convincing in her dual roles. This original scene lobby card is in fine plus condition, with only some minor smudging and staining in the borders.

The film is not a conventional narrative but more a series of vignettes set to the film’s dazzling soundtrack. This original rolled advance one sheet poster is in near mint condition.

The Newland film is made from two episodes of the first season of “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” in which Thrush captures Napoleon Solo (Vaughn) and replaces him with a look-alike to infiltrate the spy agency. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962) 9977
Original Universal Pictures Six Sheet Poster (41×81).
Original Universal Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Robert Mulligan dramatic masterpiece, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962)—starring Gregory Peck, Brock Peters, Mary Badham, Phillip Alford, and Robert Duvall. Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, this is the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era Alabama town, who defends a black man against an undeserved rape charge and his kids against prejudice. The story is told through the eyes of a feisty six-year-old tomboy named “Scout.” Although certainly not the first film to explore the experiences of children and their own personal growth, the film stands out because of he sheer honesty and natural performances of the child actors portraying these rich characters. The American Film Institute recently named the character of Atticus Finch the number one hero of all time. Indeed, Gregory Peck won the Oscar for Best Actor and always said that Finch was his favorite role of his distinguished career. The film was nominated for seven other Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Horton Foote won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for his outstanding adaptation of the Lee novel.

Grant plays a retired jewel thief and Kelly plays a slightly naughty nouveau riche daughter of an oil millionaire. This film was somewhat lighter fare for Hitchcock without his trademark suspense, but with snappy dialogue replete with sexual innuendo. Nominated for three Academy Awards, Robert Burks won the Oscar for Best Color Cinematography. He shot almost the entire film on location on the French Riviera. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.
