TALE OF THE NAVAJOS (1949) 20199
Original MGM Style B Half Sheet Poster (22×28). Folded. Very fine condition.
Original MGM Style B Half Sheet Poster (22x28) for the Harry Chandlee and John A. Haeseler short subject documentary, TALE OF THE NAVAJOS (1949)—narrated by Edwin Jerome. Shot entirely in Technicolor, this film details the history of the Navajo Indians and also focuses on the modern tribe’s everyday life. There are many interesting allusions to Navajo traditions, religious beliefs, and mythology. The film works better as an informed travelogue than as a sociological document. This style B half sheet is colorful and scarce. This original half sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL (1969) 18247
Original Very Rare Silkscreen Special Poster (34×47). Very fine condition.
This is an original silkscreen Special Poster (34x47) for the Jean-Luc Godard documentary, SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL (1969)—starring The Rolling Stones and narrated by Sean Lynch. Known as ONE PLUS ONE in Britain, this documentary intersperses scenes of The Rolling Stones recording their landmark anthem for the very popular Beggar’s Banquet album with various late 1960s counter-culture movements and organizations like the Black Panthers, an African-American revolutionary organization, with special attention on heroes like LeRoi Jones and Eldridge Cleaver. The film had no distributor in the United States, but a theater owner in Ann Arbor wanted to exhibit the film. There were no promotional materials available for the film; so, the exhibitor, who had some experience in poster production, decided to create his own poster for the film. Originally a press run of around 100 copies of the silkscreen were produced, but today only a few copies have survived. This very rare original silkscreen special poster is in very fine to near mint condition. Several of these have been auctioned recently, but none have enjoyed this superior condition. New Line Cinema reproduced the poster for its initial distribution after acquiring the rights, but those posters are printed differently and lack the panache of the original edition.

SHOAH (1985) 1996
Original New Yorker Films One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Very fine plus condition.
Original New Yorker Films One Sheet Poster (27x41) for SHOAH (1985), Claude Lanzmann's remarkable documentary film of survivor recollections of The Holocaust. Shoah is the Hebrew word which describes the genocide directed against the Jewish People in Europe during World War II. Lanzmann, a French filmmaker, made this nine hour film of interviews with survivors, and it is generally considered to me the definitive Holocaust documentary film. In SHOAH, one sees few feet of the documentary footage shot of the camps, but rather the camera brings the viewer up close to people who lived through the unspeakable. I think it helpful here to relay the entry on Lanzmann from Wikipedia.com : " Claude Lanzmann (born 1925 in Paris) is a French filmmaker. Lanzmann attended the Lycée Blaise-Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand. He joined the French resistance at the age of 18 and fought in Auvergne. Lanzmann opposed the French war in Algeria and signed the 1960 antiwar petition Manifesto of the 121. Lanzmann's most renowned work is the nine-and-a-half hour documentary film Shoah (1985), which is an oral history of the Holocaust, and is broadly considered to be the foremost film on the subject. Of particular note is that Shoah is made without the use of any historical footage, and only utilizes first-person testimony from Jewish, Polish, and German individuals, and current footage of several Holocaust-related sites. Lanzmann persuaded Polish resistance fighter Jan Karski to be a witness in Shoah by calling forth—once again—his historical responsibility. Simultaneously, the complete text appeared in English translation, with introductions by Lanzmann and Simone de Beauvoir, providing multiple keys to the philosophical and linguistic preoccupations of the producers. It was also through Shoah that many viewers were first introduced to the work of American Holocaust historian Raul Hilberg. Lanzmann has disagreed, sometimes angrily, with attempts to understand the why of Hitler, stating that the evil of Hitler cannot or should not be explained and that to do so is immoral and an obscenity. Lanzmann is chief editor of the journal Les Temps Modernes, which was founded by Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. In 2009, Lanzmann published his memoirs under the title "Le lièvre de Patagonie" (The Patagonian Hare)." The American one sheet poster for this important documentary is actually scarce, due to the relatively small U.S. distribution. This slightly irregularly folded copy is in very fine plus condition.
