THE LAS VEGAS STORY (1952) 8738
Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very Fine.
This is an original RKO One Sheet Poster for the Robert Stevenson film-noir crime drama, THE LAS VEGAS STORY (1952)—starring Jane Russell, Victor Mature, and Vincent Price. This romantic-triangle love story is about a former café singer Linda (Russell) who marries a New York investment broker Lloyd (Price). When the two stop in Las Vegas at Linda’s former venue, The Last Chance Club, Lloyd accumulates a huge gambling debt and is later accused of stealing his wife’s $50,000 necklace to pawn and get an insurance settlement as well. The local police investigator Dave (Mature), who some years earlier had an affair with Linda before he was sent overseas, tries to sort out the truth about what really happened. When Linda is kidnapped, Dave goes crazy and chases the two across the desert in a helicopter. By the end of the picture, Lloyd turns out to be wanted for embezzlement charges back in New York, which allows Linda to divorce him, take back her old singing job in Vegas, and revive her old relationship with Dave. Besides the excellent performance by Jane Russell, the other stand-out performance of the film are the three songs written by Hoagy Carmichael—“The Monkey Song” performed by Carmichael, “I Get Along Without You Very Well” performed by Russell, and “My Resistance is Low” performed by both of them. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with only some touch-up at the fold lines.
THE LAND (1969) 3373
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Very fine condition.
This is an original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Youssef Chahine drama, THE LAND (1969)—starring Hamdy Ahmed, Yehia Chahine, and Ezzat El Alaili. This Egyptian film (AL-ARD) is set in the time of the monarchy and considered to be one of the best Egyptian films of its period. In some ways, it is a righteous polemic about cultivation and respect for the land and reminiscent of films such as King Vidor’s OUR DAILY BREAD (1934) with its rousing back to the land, the power of self-reliance, and distrust of government message. In THE LAND the “city” is considered evil, and those farmers who abandon their crops and move to the city to get rich are evil too. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
THE LADY IS WILLING (1942) 15930
Original Columbia Pictures Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41). Very fine plus condition with only minor distresses in upper right hand corner.
This is an original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster for the Mitchell Leisen romantic comedy, THE LADY IS WILLING (1942)—starring Marlene Dietrich and Fred MacMurray. Dietrich plays a popular musical comedy actress, who finds an abandoned baby and takes him home. She wants to adopt the baby, but she discovers she must be married first. She convinces pediatrician MacMurray to marry her, and predictable complications then ensue. This original style B one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition with only some minor distresses in upper right hand corner.
THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (1947) 20184
Original Columbia Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Very fine plus condition.
Original Columbia Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Orson Welles film-noir, THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (1947)—staring Welles, Rita Hayworth, Everett Sloane, and Glenn Anders. Fascinated by the gorgeous Mrs. Bannister (Hayworth), seaman Michael O’Hara (Welles) joins a bizarre yachting cruise, and ends up mired in a complex murder plot. Welles adapted the screenplay from a novel by Sherwood King, as well as directing the film and playing one of the leading roles. Hayworth, though still married to Welles at the time, was estranged from her husband and only agreed to take the role as part of a final bid to save their marriage. This original lobby card of Hayworth and Welles is in very fine plus condition.
THE KISS OF THE VAMPIRE (1963) 6457
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41).
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Don Sharp horror thriller, THE KISS OF THE VAMPIRE (1963)—starring Clifford Evans, Edward de Souza, Noel Willman, and Jennifer Daniel. While the story of this British Hammer production is typical vampire fare, the film is very stylish and imbued throughout with an ominous and hypnotic feel. Lavishly designed Gothic sets, magnificent costumes, rich color photography, and a haunting musical score make this film required viewing for all horror (and especially vampire) aficionados. Very good plus condition -- theater used but vivid color. Some magic marker on the reverse has bled throught to the front side and is visible in a background area. Ask us about linen backing services. Restoring the poster would let is present as very fine.
THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS (1940) 96742
Original Universal Pictures Title Lobby Card (11×14). Very fine condition.
Original Universal Pictures Title Lobby Card (11x14) for the Joe May horror/sci-fi thriller, THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS (1940)—starring Cedric Hardwicke, Vincent Price, and Nan Grey. Universal Pictures continued its series of horror films based on the notion that a man, when he imbibes a secret formula, becomes invisible. Claude Rains had starred in the first film, in 1933, THE INVISIBLE MAN, playing a haughty scientist who shots himself up with the invisibility drug for kicks. But in this well-written sequel, Vincent Price, in his first horror role, gives this invisible man class, courage, and a wonderful sense of humor. The condition of this scarce title card is very fine - no missing paper, bright color, the most minor of distresses. A beautiful example.
THE IMMORTAL SERGEANT (1943) 2497-1
Original 20th Century Fox Colo-gloss Scene Lobby Card (11×15). Very fine to Near mint condition.
Original 20th Century Fox Colo-gloss Scene Lobby Card (11x15) for the John M. Stahl war drama, IMMORTAL SERGEANT (1943)—starring Henry Fonda, Maureen O’Hara, and Thomas Mitchell. Darryl Zanuck, head of 20th Century Fox, begged Fonda to make this war propaganda film because he thought it would rally the home front and also be an inspiration to the fighting troops. In his memoirs, Fonda admitted hating this film about all others in his career. This original scene card is in very fine to near mint condition.
THE ICE STORM (1997) 19790
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41). Rolled. Very fine condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the superb Ang Lee family drama, THE ICE STORM (1997)—starring Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, and Sigourney Weaver. Set in an upscale Connecticut suburb in 1973, this excellent film focuses on two families, the Hoods and the Cravers. These two families are quickly slipping into an existentialist void, where social taboos are shattered on whims and the line between adult authority and juvenile irresponsibility is blurred. The film chronicles a brief period of rapid moral deterioration—including adultery, sexual experimentation, drug use, and petty crimes. THE ICE STORM is an incredibly powerful and relevant ensemble piece about the complexity of family and relationships. This original rolled one sheet poster is in very fine condition.
