NIGHT KEY (1937) 20014
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Stone Lithograph. Linen-backed. Fine to very fine condition.
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Lloyd Corrigan sci-fi crime drama, NIGHT KEY (1937)—starring Boris Karloff, Warren Hull, Jean Rogers, and Alan Baxter. This picture was shot in 27 days on a budget of $192,000 and was an attempt by Universal, worried that the horror genre had crested, to present Karloff in a different kind of role. In this drama, Karloff invents a new, high-tech burglar alarm but then is kidnapped by a gang in order to get him to help them with robberies. Restoration and linen-backing has corrected fold wear, crossfold separations, pinholes in the corners, small missing chips, and some paper loss at the vertical fold. This beautiful stone lithograph one sheet poster with a fabulous image of Karloff is now in fine to very fine condition.
NIAGARA (1953) 385
Original 20th Century Fox Twenty-Four Sheet Poster (9′x20′). Linen-backed on three panels. Very Fine.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Twenty-Four Sheet Poster (9’x20’) for the Henry Hathaway film-noir thriller, NIAGRA (1953)—starring Marilyn Monroe, Joseph Cotton, and Jean Peters. A remarkable artifact of the U.S. motion picture industry, this extremely large and rare exterior billboard displays a huge image of the greatest sex goddess-star the world has ever known - Marilyn Monroe. This suspenseful story of love, betrayal, and murder is set against the magnificent backdrop of Niagara Falls. While Monroe is sexy and seductive garbed in a most revealing wardrobe, she demonstrates convincingly that she can also play serious roles. Indeed, this is the only movie in which her character dies in the end. NIAGARA is considered a film noir. Joseph Cotten gives a typically impressive performance as the abusive and unstable husband, and Jean Peters, who took the role originally meant for Anne Baxter, delivers an excellent performance as a totally unsuspecting honeymooner who inadvertently gets caught up in Monroe/Cotten intrigue. This original twenty-four sheet poster is linen-backed on three panels and is in very fine condition. This billboard is extremely large -- nine by twenty feet.
NEVADA SMITH (1966) 9178
Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Fine plus condition.
Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Henry Hathaway western, NEVADA SMITH (1966)—starring Steve McQueen, Karl Malden, Brian Keith, and Suzanne Pleshette. In this classic study of vengeance, a half-breed (McQueen) evolves into a hardened killer as he tracks down the three men who murdered his parents. The screenplay by two-time Academy Awards nominated screenwriter John Michael Hayes is adapted from a novel by Harold Robbins. This was one of the first films to apply the contemporary standards of sex and violence to a Wild West setting. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition—with only some scribbling on the reverse side, some pinholes, and minor fold separations at the crossfolds.
NETWORK (1976) 4903
Original MGM Set of 8 Printed Color Stills )8×10). Near mint condition.
Original MGM Set of 8 Printed Color Stills (8x10) from the Sidney Lumet dramatic masterpiece, NETWORK (1976)—starring Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch, and Robert Duvall. This excellent film is about a fading news anchor who is given a new lease after he speaks candidly, emotionally, and profanely about his feelings on his supposed last broadcast. But Programming VP (Dunaway) decides he is the answer to all the network’s lagging ratings. The actors are all so superb (the film received five Academy Awards acting nominations) that they make screeching caricatures into almost sympathetic characters. The film has been described as high art masquerading as popular entertainment. These original studio color stills are in near mint condition. Included is the one truly great close up of the three men of NETWORK - Holden, Finch and Robert Duvall.
MY FAIR LADY (1964) 6646
Original Warner Bros. 1971 Reissue One Sheet Poster (27×41). Rolled. Very fine condition.
Original Warner Bros. 1971 Reissue One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the George Cukor iconic musical, MY FAIR LADY (1964)—starring Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway, and Wilfrid Hyde-White. Harrison play a misanthropic and snobbish phonetics professor who agrees to a wager that he can take a flower girl (Hepburn) and make her presentable in high society. Everything about the production is superlative—outstanding acting, expert direction, lavish costumes and sets, memorable songs and incidental music, and stunning cinematography. The film was nominated for twelve Academy Awards and won eight Oscars—including Best Picture, Best Director to Cukor, and Best Actor to Harrison. This original 1971 reissue one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946) 14902
Original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81×81). Stone lithograph. Linen-backed. Near mint condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81x81) for the John Ford western masterpiece, MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946)—starring Henry Fonda, Linda Darnell, Victor Mature, and Cathy Downs. Adapted from Stuart Lake’s book “Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal,” the film tells the story of Wyatt Earp and his brothers who decide in 1882 to settle in Tombstone after their cattle are rustled and their younger brother James is killed. Earp who had already served as a marshal gladly accepts the position in Tombstone along with brothers as deputies. Marshal Earp has several run-ins with Ike Clanton and his sons. When Earp is forced to kill Billy Clanton, it leads to the famous shoot-out at the OK Corral. Some critics have dubbed this film the finest western ever made, and certainly the film represents a high point in the careers of all involved. Ford’s excellent direction creates a perfect blend of drama, action, romance, and occasional comic relief. This original stone lithograph six sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.
MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1935) 16953
Original MGM Insert Poster (14×36). Good condition.
Original MGM Insert Poster (14x36) for the Frank Lloyd adventure drama classic, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1935)—starring Charles Laughton, Clark Gable, and Franchot Tone. This is the true story of Fletcher Christian (Gable), who successfully leads a revolt against the ruthless Captain William Bligh (Laughton), only to have Bligh return a year later to avenge the mutiny. Every thing about this film is superlative: the acting, direction, cinematography, music, sets, and locations. The acting was so good that all three leading actors (Laughton, Gable, and Tone) were all nominated for Best Actor. This is the only film in history to garner three Best Actor nominations; thus, the Academy had to create new Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories. The film won the Best Picture Oscar. This original insert poster is in good condition.
MURDER, MY SWEET (1944) 19345
Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Restoration to correct pinholes in the corners, fold wear, small tears in the borders, and a chip out of the left border. Linen-backed. Fine to very fine condition.
Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Edward Dmytryk film-noir thriller, MURDER, MY SWEET (1944)—starring Dick Powell, Claire Trevor, and Ann Shirley. RKO was on the verge of bankruptcy when it signed aging matinee idol Powell to make a series of musicals. Powell only signed under the proviso that he could play a dramatic role first, so he was cast as detective Philip Marlowe in this stylish adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel. The art of this original three sheet poster is the best on the title with a stunning shot of Trevor in a negligee and bold title graphics. The poster has been restored to correct pinholes in the corners, fold wear, small tears in the borders, and a chip out of the left border. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine to very fine condition. Seriously one of the great U.S. film noir posters.
