MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION (1954) 16591

Original Universal International One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Very fine.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Universal International One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Douglas Sirk classic melodrama, MAGNIFIENT OBSESSION (1954) based on the novel by Lloyd C. Douglas —starring Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. This film was a remake of the 1935 version, which stars Irene Dunne and Robert Taylor. Just as the earlier film made Robert Taylor’s career, this film was a breakthrough film for Rock Hudson. Indeed, he would do eight more successful movies with Sirk. In this film, Hudson plays a shallow, womanizing, heavy drinking, spoiled playboy. Causing an accident in which Wyman goes blind, he tries to redeem himself by giving selflessly to others and devoting his life to medicine to find a way to restore her eyesight. With excellent performances by Hudson and Wyman (who was nominated for Best Actress), superb production values, and an emotional classical score by Frank Skinner, this drama became an audience favorite. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.

LOST HIGHWAY (1997) 19926

Original October Films One Sheet Poster (27×40).  Rolled. Single sided.  Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original October Films One Sheet Poster (27x40) for the David Lynch psychological thriller, LOST HIGHWAY (1997)—starring Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, Robert Blake, Robert Loggia, and Balthazar Getty. This fantastic blend of weirdness, violence, and erotica tells the strange story of a jazz saxophonist (Pullman) who is framed for the murder of his wife and sent to prison, where he inexplicably morphs into a young auto mechanic (Getty) and begins a new life. The film appears to be a very stylish realization of a nightmare; although, it is shot like a film-noir with Arquette as the femme fatale. Some have dismissed LOST HIGHWAY as just a movie about schizophrenia, while others have searched for deeper and hidden meanings. This original single-sided one sheet poster is rolled and in near mint condition. Absolutely authentic.

LOLA (1961) 6294

Original French “Affiche” Poster (24×32).  Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original French poster (24x32) for the Jacques Demy romantic drama, LOLA (1961)—starring Anouk Aimee, Marc Michel, and Jacques Harden. Demy’s first and one of the most loveable films of the French New Wave, LOLA was originally conceived as a Technicolor musical but wound up being shot as a black and white drama. A bored young man Roland (Michel) has a chance meeting with Lola (Aimee), a cabaret dancer he knew in his teens. This chance meeting could have lasting consequences and possibly enduring devotion. The vividly drawn characters of this remarkable film are sincere, complex, and entirely empathetic. The general ambience and cinematography are beautiful and perfectly complimented by the original music of Michel Legrand sprinkled with Mozart and Beethoven. The poster is decorated with the lovely Anouk Aimee. The poster is in near mint condition.

LIFE BEGINS FOR ANDY HARDY (1941)

Original MGM Insert Poster (14×36).  Linen-backed.  Very good condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original MGM Insert Poster (14x36) for the Goerge B. Seitz romantic comedy, LIFE BEGINS FOR ANDY HARDY (1941). Wonderful photography of America's favorite teenagers of the late 1930s and early 1940s, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Garland appeared three times as the character Betsy Booth in the Hardy series. This was her final appearance in these films, and the movie is not the usual Hardy fare. The teens must face incipient adulthood in a world soon to be at war. Mickey moves to New York City, and soon finds that the Big Apple is a place with girls - and even more serious problems, just like anywhere else. LIFE BEGINS FOR ANDY HARDY has the most intelligent script of the series. Even though Mickey Rooney would go on to make several more of these, MGM would never again try to solemnize the ritual in quite this way. This poster is on an old linen and its overall condition is very good, and while it would frame nicely, it could be rebacked. Rare in this format, we think it is the best poster for the film.
