In this film he gives remarkable depth to the role of a man who marries a woman for her money (Johnson) and then cheats on her constantly. The three actresses also give outstanding performances, particularly Rita Johnson as the manipulative wife with a touching frailty and Susan Hayward as office girl with lofty ambitions.
