Original 20th Century Fox Three Sheet Poster (41.25x78.75) for the Allan Dwan musical family drama, YOUNG PEOPLE (1940)—starring Shirley Temple, Jack Oakie, and Charlotte Greenwood. The story involves a vaudeville couple (Oakie and Greenwood) who adopt a baby girl (Temple) and then decide to retire from show business so Temple can have a normal life when she’s growing up. It was Temple’s last film for Fox and her final “little girl” performance. It marked the end of an era for the legendary child star who delighted movie audiences in the 1930s, but whose popular box-office appeal was now fading—and fading fast. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine condition.

This is an original 1956 Dominant Pictures Re-release Half Sheet Poster (22x28) for the Michael Curtiz musical biography, YANKEE DOODLE DANDY (1942)—starring James Cagney, Joan Leslie, and Walter Huston. This is a musical portrait of James M. Cohan—who wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his own musical shows for which he composed many memorable songs. Known as “the man who owned Broadway” in the decade before World War I, Cohan is considered to be father of American musical comedy. Cagney won the Oscar for Best Actor, and the film also won Oscars for Best Music and Best Sound Recording. It was also nominated in five other categories—including Best Original Story, Best Director, and Best Picture. Some staining. This poster can be easily restored. An interesting image of Cagney, this reissue poster of 1956 is actually scarcer than 1942 posters. Ask us about restoration. Originally folded, this 1956 re-release half sheet poster is in good condition.

Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Robert Greenwald musical fantasy, XANADU (1980)—starring Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, and Michael Beck. Kira (Newton-John) a Greek muse incarnated as a girl attempts to inspire an artist named Sonny (Beck) with the help of Danny (Kelly), a man Kira inspired forty years earlier. American copywriter and publicist John J. B. Wilson decided to formalize his Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) after watching a double feature of CAN’T STOP THE MUSIC (1980) and XANADU. The film received 6 Razzie nominations, including Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Original Song,Worst Actor for Beck, and Worst Actress for Newton-John. Robert Greewald won the Razzie for Worst Director. With good color and no fold separations, this original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine plus condition.

Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Elliott Nugent musical comedy, UP IN ARMS (1944)—starring Danny Kaye, Dinah Shore, Dana Andrews, and Constance Dowling. Samuel Goldwyn had been trying to sign Kaye to a movie contract for two years before he finally agreed. Goldwyn put him in a series of Technicolor musicals beginning with this picture. The story revolves around Kaye’s character, who is a hypochondriac that gets drafted and makes life miserable for his fellow soldiers. Kaye steals every scene he is in, deftly switching into and out of a pastiche of popular song styles, slang, scat, and even an African-American impersonation. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Best Musical Score and Best Original Song (“Now I Know”).

This is an original Warner Bros Presskit (9x12) for the truly offbeat musical comedy TRUE STORIES (1986)—staring David Byrne, John Goodman, and Annie McEnroe about a bunch of crazy people who live in fictional Virgil, Texas. Written and directed by Byrne, every wonderful song in the film conveys feeling, emotion, and truth about these wacky characters. This original Presskit is in very fine condition with 4 B&W studio sills and as well as extensive production notes and press releases. Wild Wild Life!

This is an original Universal Pictures Twenty Four Sheet Poster (9ft. x 20ft.) for the Ralph Murphy musical comedy, TOP OF THE TOWN (1937)—starring Doris Nolan, George Murphy, and Ella Logan. The plot centers around the opening of a luxury nightclub atop a 100-story skyscraper and the conflict over what kind of floorshow to present. Bandleader Murphy wants hot tunes, great dancing, and razzle-dazzle. But club owner Nolan want something artistic and socially significant. The film presents a wild variety of the musical comedy specialty acts from the period. It’s a real hodge-podge and definitely a mixed bag. But whatever faults it might have, the film is never boring. This original twenty four sheet poster is in very fine condition. Colorful, authentic thirites and great for a bar or other festive public space.

THIN ICE paired two big stars for Twentieth Century Fox - the matinee idol Tyrone Power, one of Fox's biggest contract players, and ice skating sensation Sonja Henie. With the popularity of traveling ice shows like the Ice Capades, figure skating became big in the 1930s. Henie, an international ice skating champion, (she won the Gold Medal at the 1928 Olympics) came to Hollywood to make films for Darryl Zanuck. Her first film for Fox ONE IN A MILLION proved successful and soon Henie and Tyrone Power, with whom she had a much publicized affair, were seen on screen and off. Her career continued through the 1950s. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen, but spent her final years in Norway accumulating a major modern art collection. This poster is mounted on an older linen, but displays well. Condition is fine +.

Hope plays a bumbling news correspondent who uncovers an Axis spy ring on the eve of America’s entry into World War II. In an adventure that covers Moscow, New York City, Washington, and Niagara Falls—Hope comes across international cutthroats, femme fatales, undercover agents, blonde burlesque queens, Axis saboteurs, and a crazy Civil War vet. Hope and Lamour have fabulous chemistry together, and their comic timing as a team is impeccable. This original one sheet poster is in used but good condition. Two triangular chips are missing from the top border area.
