ROCKIN IN THE ROCKIES (1945) 16384

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Vernon Keays western musical comedy, ROCKIN' IN THE ROCKIES (1945). Mary Beth Hughes is shown as a cowgirl in this excuse for Columbia to assemble a bunch of musical artists with their short subject Kings The Three Stooges in a dude-ranch / western swing B-picture. The Hoosier Hotshots were radio artists in the psuedo-country music mode and Spade Cooley was an authentic western swing star. The plot is thin, involving gambling, prospecting, performing, comedy, music, ranch life. It's a rather light, inconsequential but amusing mix. But the poster evokes an era before country music had ever heard of Hank Williams. Fine condition. Some distresses, but would linen-back nicely.

ROCK BABY: ROCK IT (1957) 2577

Original United Pictures Complete Lobby Card Set (11×14). Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original United Pictures Complete Lobby Card Set (11x14) for the Murray Douglas Sporup crime musical, ROCK BABY: ROCK IT (1957)—starring an array of local Dallas, Texas musical acts of the late 1950’s. The faint whiff of a plot has a bunch of middle-aged “square” mobsters trying to take over teen nightspot. The resourceful kids decide to hold an impromptu benefit concert to raise enough money to save their beloved hangout. But the plot exists solely as a flimsy excuse to showcase a bunch of hot local musical acts. This film is certainly one of the grubbier of the cheap “rocksploitation” movies churned out in the 1950’s. But if you can get beyond the cheap sets and hopelessly stiff acting, the sincerity and eagerness of the performers makes the overall shoddiness both forgivable and strangely endearing. These lobby cards evoke the rockabilly era as well as any film posters that we know. This original complete lobby card set is in near mint condition.

RED RIVER VALLEY (1941) 18974

Original Republic Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Republic Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Joseph Kane musical western, RED RIVER VALLEY (1941)—starring Roy Rogers, George “Gabby” Hayes, Gale Storm, and Trevor Bardette. Roy helps local ranchers raise money to build a reservoir, but then the money is lost to a gambler through a crooked stock deal. Roy sings some songs and eventually recovers all the stolen loot. And leaves behind this gorgeous poster, which far outstrips the film, I'm sure. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.

POT O GOLD (1941) 20015

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Some minor flaws.  Fine plus condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the George Marshall musical comedy, POT O’ GOLD (1941)—starring James Stewart, Paulette Goddard, Horace Heidt, and Charles Winninger. This is the movie version of a popular radio program of the same name that featured musical routines. It is a romantic comedy told in musical form with Stewart playing one of his trademark common man personas-- who could also sing. And though audiences did not usually associate Stewart with singing, he is actually pretty good. This delightful film is meant to be funny, a little madcap, and always sweet. This original one sheet poster has some minor flaws—including edge wear, crossfold separations, pinholes, an extra crease at the vertical fold, and a small chip on the right side that has paper tape on the front and back. The overall condition is fine plus.

PIGSKIN PARADE (1936) 10157

Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Linen-backed.  Fine plus condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original 20th Century Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the David Butler sports musical, PIGSKIN PARADE (1936)—starring Sturat Erwin, Patsy Kelly, Jack Haley, Betty Grable, and Judy Garland. The most notable thing about this film is the feature film debut of 14-year-old Judy Garland as the young hillbilly Sairy Dodd. Garland’s handful of comic scenes and her three songs served as a wake-up call to MGM executives, and she was never “loaned-out” again in her 15 years at MGM. We have been asked if this poster has art by Al Hirschfeld. There are some conflicting opinions on this, but the answer is most probably not. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.

PARADISE HAWAIIAN STYLE (1966) 16342

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Michael D. Moore musical comedy, PARADISE, HAWAIIAN STYLE (1966)--starring Elvis Presley, Suzanna Leigh and James Shigeta. Elvis had been over this territory for Paramount once before, in the more sumptuous BLUE HAWAII (1961). That movie had been blessed with at least one song that made it into the Elvis Canon, "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You." No such luck here, but we do have a more sixties if not more sexy Elvis flaunting his playboy ways as a roguish pilot who starts a helicopter flying service in the islands. Add a pretty girl, Suzanna Leigh, and an appealing handsome Japanese-American actor, James Shigeta (of FLOWER DRUM SONG fame) and you have the Elvis Formula in place. Of course, the poster is better than the movie! And in near mint unbacked condition.

PAINT YOUR WAGON (1969) 15086

Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Snipe on lower part of poster.   Very good condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the musical western, PAINT YOUR WAGON (1969)—starring Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood, Jean Seberg, and Harve Presnell. Paramount spared no expense in taking Lerner and Loewe’s successful stage show and beefing it up with new music and arrangements by Nelson Riddle and a new adapted screenplay by Paddy Chayefsky. Though it is hard to imagine Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood singing, they actually do a credible job. Nelson Riddle’s original score was nominated for an Academy Award. But besides the great music, the performances are very good, especially Marvin and Eastwood. There is a snipe on the lower part of the poster which is semi-attached and probably should be removed. This original one sheet poster is therefore in very good condition. Otherwise fine.

OLIVER! (1968) 19052

Original 2-Panel Subway Advance Poster (45×60). Linen-backed. Very good.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original 2-Panel Subway Advance Poster (45x60) for the Carol Reed musical, OLIVER!—starring Ron Moody, Oliver Reed, and Mark Lester. The legendary story by Charles Dickens was admirably adapted as a musical for the London stage by Lionel Bart. It then became a equally big hit on Broadway and was finally adapted for film in 1968. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, the film won Best Picture and Best Director for Reed. In addition, Onna White won a special honorary award for her outstanding choreography. The sequence for "Consider Yourself" is one of the greatest dance sequences in film history. This pre-Academy Award 2-panel advance poster was for the U.S. Premiere of the film on December 10, 1968. Any U.S. material that does not have the Oscar statuette on the poster - hence "pre-Oscar" - is very scarce. This unusually rare poster is in very good condition and is linen-backed. This is one of the best posters for this film we have ever seen.
