BUS STOP (1956) 12753

ORIGINAL 20th Century Fox Six Sheet Poster (81×81).  Linen-backed.  Very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original 20th Century Fox Six Sheet poster for the Joshua Logan romantic comedy, BUS STOP (1956)—starring Marilyn Monroe, Don Murray, and Arthur O’Connell. BUS STOP was written by William Inge. Inge had won the Pulitzer Prize for playwriting for PICNIC in 1953. Immediately after PICNIC came the play BUS STOP. This is the story of innocent rodeo cowboy Bo (Murray) who falls in love with a café singer Cherie (Monroe) in Phoenix. She tries to run away to Los Angeles, but Murray finds her and forces her to get on the bus back to his Montana ranch. Monroe creates one of her most memorable and deeply touching characters in “chanteuse” Cherie. In his book on Marilyn, the writer Norman Mailer asserts that the actress never looked more ravishing than she did in BUS STOP. The character of Bo was Murray’s first and best-remembered screen role and netted him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. William Inge later won an Academy Award for his screenplay SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS. This original linen backed six sheet is in very fine condition. The six sheet is, in our opinion, the best U.S. poster on this title.

BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID (1969) 18958

Original Italian Duofolio (38×55). Very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Italian Duofolio (39x55) for the George Roy Hill western, BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID (1969)—starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katharine Ross. The charming story is about two shrewd outlaws who rob trains and banks, finally deciding to flee to Bolivia. This highly individual and stylistic western was the smash hit of 1969 because of the pairing of Newman and Redford. The outstanding screenplay by William Goldman had just the right mix of comedy, wit, and adventure. Much credit should also be given to director Hill and cinematographer Conrad Hall, who gave the film a great look of the “Old West.” The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film won four Oscars (the most of any film that year), including Best Screenplay to Goldman. This original Italian Duofolio is in very fine condition.

BUTTERFIELD 8 (1960)

Original MGM Insert poster (14×36)  Very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original MGM Insert Poster (27x41) for the Daniel Mann drama. BUTTERFIELD 8 –starring Elizabeth Taylor, Laurence Harvey, and Eddie Fisher. Taylor had just run off with Debbie Reynolds’ husband Eddie Fisher when MGM decided to cash in on the bad publicity and make Taylor take this role of bad-girl-from-hell as the final film in her contract to the studio. The film is adapted from John O'Hara's prohibition-era novel about a high class call-girl. But in this film, set contemporaneously, Elizabeth Taylor plays a hard-drinking, sexed-up, bed-hopping model, who gets her kicks from seducing and then dumping one man after another. Taylor always complained that the film was a total piece of trash. But her over-the-top performance was just what the role required and won her the first of her two Oscars for Best Actress. What is unfathomable is how anyone could be interested in cold-fish Laurence Harvey. When Taylor grinds her stilletto heels into Harvey's toes, we cheer. Elizabeth's best line in the film: "I'm not like anyone; I"m me." Truer words were never spoken. A rolled very nice copy of the insert.
