CRUISING (1980) 12398
Original United Artists Insert Poster (14×36). Very fine condition.
This is an original United Artists Insert Poster (14x36) for the William Friedkin crime thriller, CRUISING (1980)—starring Al Pacino, Paul Sorvino, and Karen Allen. This fictional account of a series of gruesome killings of homosexual men by a serial killer in modern day New York City is very dark and disturbing. While plagued by numerous demonstrations during production, the film encountered serious protests upon its release by gay groups who felt the film encouraged homophobia by concentrating on a small minority of hardcore S&M enthusiasts. But some would argue that Friedkin’s believes that ugliness is at the base of all human existence. Audiences were also unsettled by all the “ambiguity” that the film presented. But Pacino’s performance was excellent, and the documentary style made for excitement and fascination. Friedkin creates a dark and frightening atmosphere, totally enhanced and complimented by a remarkable musical score. This original insert poster is in very fine condition.

Original RKO Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Dorothy Arzner comedy, DANCE, GIRL, DANCE (1940)—starring Maureen O’Hara, Louis Hayward, Lucille Ball, and Virginia Field. O’Hara is fabulous as a ballet dancer who has to lower her artistic standards to make a living. Ball is also wonderful in her “bad girl” role. Ball and O’Hara would become life-long friends as a result of making this film together. This is also one of the few Hollywood films of this era to be directed by a woman. You might not notice this fact until the end when O’Hara delivers what can only be described as an early “feminist” speech. This original scene lobby card is in very fine condition.
