BOUND FOR GLORY (1976) 12358

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original U.S. Insert card for the Hal Ashby film BOUND FOR GLORY (1976) starring David Carradine, Melinda Dillon, Ronny Cox and Randy Quaid. The film is a partial biography of American folk music icon Woody Guthrie. It tells Guthries story of intenerant wandering and initial fame from radio during the late 1930s and 1940s. David Carradine is quite plausible as the young Guthrie and Ashby directs the film reverently. One of the best things about the movie, other than the covering of many of Woody’s songs is the lush Panavision cinematography by the genius Haskell Wexler. Wexler seems to find the truth in Guthrie’s lyrics and translates them into breathtaking vistas as well as gritty portraits of the dustbowl. This insert was never folded and is in very fine plus condition. An excellent example of this poster.

CORNBREAD, EARL AND ME (1975) 14917

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original American International Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Joseph Manduke sport drama, CORNBREAD, EARL AND ME (1975) starring Moses Gunn, Rosalind Cash, Jamaal Wilkes, Laurence Fishburne, and Tierre Turner. This is the sad story of Nathaniel “Cornbread” Hamilton—a college-bound basketball star and hero to youngsters Wilford (Fisburne) and Earl (Turner)—who is shot to death by police who mistake him for an armed rapist. Thirteen-year-old Fishburne delivers a believable and poignant portrayal of the kid witness to this debacle who must stand up to police corruption and intimidation. This theater-used original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition—with some minor creases and small dings, but with no fold separations.

TOMMY (1975) 9624

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Ken Russell fantasy musical, TOMMY (1975) starring Oliver Reed, Ann-Margret, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Tina Turner, and Elton John. A singing cast tells the story, set against the original music by The Who, with powerful and striking story telling by avant-garde director Russell. There has been some grousing about Reed’s singing ability (or lack thereof), but who can forget the amazing performances of Tina Turner and Elton John. Ann-Margret was nominated for Best Actress, and Pete Townshend was nominated for Best Music. This original advance one sheet is folded and in very good condition, with some irregular folds with fold stresses. This poster could be professionally cleaned and linen-backed very successfully.

What set this film apart from the other “moster-on-the-loose” films of the 1950′s is the superior stop-action animation by special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen. Original Walt Disney Productions Three Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Clyde Geronimi animated fairy tale, SLEEPING BEAUTY (1959) starring the voices of Mary Costa, Bill Shirley, and Eleanor Audley. This feature was in active production from 1951 until the end of 1958 and was the last Disney animated feature to have cels inked by hand. The beautiful art direction is inspired by European medieval paintings and architecture, and the elaborate background paintings took between seven and ten days to paint. SLEEPING BEAUTY was perhaps the first animated feature released in 70mm, in large part to present the music in stereo. Though much of the soundtrack in based on the Tchaikovsky ballet, George Bruns received an Academy Award nomination for Best Musical Score for his original songs. The poster is folded and not linen backed and is very fine plus condition with some signs of use. Some pinholes indicate that the poster was once theater-used. Colors are vivid. Three sheets are published generally on two panels which are then joined together to make one poster. This poster therefore is comprised of two separate panels. MovieArt can recommend a conservation studio if linen-backing is desired.
