OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian poster for the Ted Tetzlaff film SON OF SINBAD (1955) starring Dale Robertson, Sally Forrest, Vincent Price, Marie Blanchard and Lili St. Cyr. Originally produced in 1953 as part of the first 3D movie craze, producer Howard Hughes held the film up for two years and released in flat as the fad had too quickly lost its appeal. The film is vintage Hollywood — a campy, wildly sexy Arabian Nights fantasy with female pulchritude and lingerie ecdysiast Lili St, Cyr in abundance! This folded poster is in fine condition has been stored rolled for some years. Definitely used, but the image area is complete. The Belgian censor stamp is attached to the poster.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Ronald Neame comedy, THE HORSE’S MOUTH (958) starring Alec Guinness, Kay Walsh, Renee Houston, and Mike Morgan. Guinness portrays Gulley—broke, difficult, and conniving—but also an artist. Guinness gives an astounding and nuanced performance as the passionate but surly painter. The film makes us laugh out loud repeatedly while examining the serious subjects of vision and creation, art and commerce, and art and criticism. This original one sheet poster is folded and the border has been trimmed. In addition there are some pinholes and slight fold separation, encouraging us to view this poster as a good

WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? (1966) 9960

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Warner Brothers One Sheet poster for Mike Nichols important American film, WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? (1966) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, George Segal, and Sandy Dennis. This cinematic masterpiece is based on a play by Edward Albee, which won both the 1963 Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. The play was remarkably adapted for the screen by Ernest Lehman. It is the story of one horrendous night in the lives a very bitter, aging couple (Taylor and Burton), who with the help of limitless quantities of alcohol use the visit of a younger couple (Dennis and Segal) to fuel anguish and emotional torture towards each other. Indeed, the audience is as exhausted as the characters by the end of this ordeal. The film won five Academy Awards– including Best Actress for Taylor, Best Supporting Actress for Dennis, and Best Cinematography for Haskell Wexler. The film was also nominated for eight more awards—including Best Actor for Burton, Best Supporting Actor for Segal, Best Director for Nichols (in his directorial debut), Best Score for Alex North, and Best Picture. This original one sheet is in very fine condition except for one fold separation which we have addressed with archival tissue. A great candidate for linen backing. PAL JOEY (1957) 14000

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures one sheet poster for the George Sidney musical PAL JOEY (1957) starring Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, and Kim Novak. The film is based on the classic Rodgers and Hart musical of the same name and features such ageless songs as BEWITCHED, BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED and MY FUNNY VALENTINE. Sinatra is at the top of his game portraying a San Francisco roue torn between two women — a high society matron and a showgirl. Celluloid life and reel life mirrored one another as Columbia Boss Harry Cohn’s real-life obsession between the two studio glamour girls played out on screen, pitting one against the other. This theater used poster is in very good condition. It is somewhat worn – with some small tears, some pinholes and other distresses. This poster is a good candidate for linen backing. CIRCUS WORLD (1965) 5222

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet poster for the Henry Hathaway film CIRCUS WORLD (1964) starring John Wayne, Claudia Cardinale and Rita Hayworth. Samuel Bronston was a colorful character who produced epic films in Europe which received the big 70mm distribution treatment from several of the Hollywood studios. He began this pattern with MGM. MGM were looking to follow up the huge success of BEN-HUR (1959) with another film. The movie was KING OF KINGS (1961) directed by Nicholas Ray. Other films followed – gigantic independent productions with big stars and distributed by big Hollywood studios: EL CID, THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE, 55 DAYS AT PEKING. The last of these behemoths was CIRCUS WORLD, distributed by Paramount and intended for the Cinerama circuit. Life under the Big Top had been covered better by several other films, with their train wrecks, animal escapes, even mayhem. Here the attraction was The Duke of course, a somewhat long-in-the-tooth-for this-kind-of-thing Rita Hayworth, and the beautiful Claudia Cardinale. Veteran director Henry Hathaway was hired to helm the movie for the giant Cinerama screen. This poster is for the U.S. 35mm release of the movie. The poster has some staple holes in the corners, a small crease in the lower left corner. No fold separation. Some small pinholes.
