OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Richard Thorpe romantic drama, THE GIRL WHO HAD EVERYTHING (1953) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Fernando Lamas, William Powell, and Gig Young. Taylor plays the daughter of a tough trial lawyer (Powell) who falls in love with his gangster client (Lamas). A remake of the film A FREE SOUL (1931) starring Norma Shearer and Clark Gable, this film does not have the seediness of the original but certainly has all the unbridled sensuality of the first movie. Taylor gives a thoroughly convincing portrayal of the willful, headstrong daughter who grows from a spoiled, immature flirt into a strong, sobered woman. Powell had been with MGM since 1934, and this was his final film for the studio. This original one sheet poster is in very good plus condition. There are some small holes in the corner, and a tear of about 1.5 inches in the lower right border. However, the colors are vivid, and the poster would look nice linen backed.

THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS (1954) 13605

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Richard Brooks romantic drama, THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS (1954) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, and Eva Gabor. Based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald story “Babylon Revisited,” which takes place in Paris after World War I, MGM decided to update the story to Paris after World War II. But the Paris of the roaring twenties that Fitzgerald wrote about is not the Paris of the forties. Director Brooks does for the first time bring out the startling acting abilities of Elizabeth Taylor, even at the tender age of 22. Her portrayal of Helen’s character is complicated, nuanced, and layered with deep sadness. This original one sheet poster is in fine plus condition, with no fold separations and vivid colors.

RAINTREE COUNTY (1957) 13603

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original MGM Title Lobby Card (11×14) for the Edward Dmytryk romantic drama, RAINTREE COUNTY (1957) starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Eva Marie Saint, Nigel Patrick, and Lee Marvin. When this film was in rehearsals, Clift’s notorious drinking problem got completely out of hand. When the film was half finished, Clift left a party given by Taylor and her husband Michael Wilding and crashed his car into a telephone pole, horribly disfiguring his face. Production on the film was shut down for weeks, but the film was finally completed and received four Academy Award nominations, including Taylor’s first nomination for Best Actress. This original title card is in very fine to near mint condition.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937) 6794

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Walt Disney Productions French Poster (24×32) for the William Cottrell and David Hand color animation classic, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937)—starring the voices of Andriana Caselotti, Lucille La Verne, Eddie Collins, and Pinto Colvig. This was the first and by far the most memorable full-length animated feature from Disney Studios. It tells a simple story of a charming princess saved from the evil deeds of her wicked stepmother by a group of seven adorable dwarfs. It astounded audiences when it was released in December 1937 and since has become an enduring family favorite. It won the Academy Award for Best Musical Score, and the next year Walt Disney was presented an Honorary Oscar to recognize the film “as a significant screen innovation which has charmed millions and pioneered a great new entertainment field.” Disney received one regular statuette and seven miniature statuettes. This original French poster is in very fine plus condition. Included with the poster is the original invitation to the Paris premier of the film (6794S).

THE CINCINNATI KID (1965) 19404

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original French 24×32 poster for the Norman Jewison gambling drama, THE CINCINNATI KID (1965) starring Steve McQueen, Ann-Margret, Karl Malden, Tuesday Weld, and Edward G. Robinson. Set in New Orleans in the 1930s, the Cincinnati Kid (McQueen) is a young stud poker player who goes from one big game to the next, until he is finally pitted against the legendary cardsharp Lancey Howard (Robinson). The final showdown at the hotel is probably the most tense and exciting poker game ever filmed. This original 24×32 from France features different art from the American posters and is one of the really fine posters of McQueen. Very Fine.

Two Posters. Original United Artists Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) and Standard One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Sidney Lumet psychological drama, EQUUS (1977) starring Richard Burton, Peter Firth, Colin Blakely, and Joan Plowright. This film is a masterful adaptation of an emotionally disturbing stage play. Originally produced in London, it later opened on Broadway at the Plymouth Theater in 1974 and won the Tony award for the best play. It tells the story of a psychiatrist (Burton) who investigates the savage blinding of six horses by a shy and unassuming stable boy (Firth). Burton, Firth, and playwright and screenwriter Peter Shaffer all received Academy Award nominations. Both of these one sheet posters are in very fine plus condition. The standard one sheet has artwork by Bob Peak.

THE ENDLESS SUMMER (1966) 20865

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The smaller counter-standee posters for this 1966 surfing classic have been seen in the last several years, but the full one sheet size is now definitely scarce. Wonderful day-glo ink art by John Van Hamersveld. THE ENDLESS SUMMER began its trek to feature film status as a series of homemade but rather excellently filmed surfing travelogues, presented in high school and civic auditoria throughout California, created by the inveterate surfer Bruce Brown. These individual films were fashioned into a 95 minute theatrical film released by Cinema V. In this movie the surfers Michael Hynson and Robert August criss-crossed the world in search of the most seductive wave they could find. Engaging homespun narration, laced with the sixties most bitchin’ surfing lingo and guitar, and spot-on colorful (16mm!) cinematography attracted audiences all over the world. The film has been often imitated – it spawned its own sequel, THE ENDLESS SUMMER 2 (1994) and most recently the hi-def technically dazzling STEP INTO LIQUID (2003). And the Australians made a bunch of surfing features of their own. Ask about our collection of those! But for sheer charm, nothing can top THE ENDLESS SUMMER. Very fine plus, folded.

THUNDERBALL (1965) 19495

full.thunderball_24

Original United Artists Twenty Four Sheet Poster (9 ft x 20 ft) for the Terence Young adventure thriller, THUNDERBALL (1965)– starring Sean Connery, Claudine Auger, and Adolfo Celi. Perhaps the most outrageous James Bond poster around as well as the largest. THUNDERBALL (1965) was the first really widescreen Bond movie, and the film demonstrably took the effects and sweep of the films to center stage. From this point forward James Bond movies would be above all LARGE. I regard it as the first of the Big Bond movies. Since so much of it happens underwater, how better to display the big guy other than in his S.C.U.B.A gear? Move over, Esther Williams, the name is Bond – James Bond. Here is a poster on the such a scale that even Emilio Largo would be envious. The twenty four sheet is printed on multiple panels which must be joined for display. This example was never used and exists in remarkable shape.
