OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Polish Poster (26×38) for the Richard Attenborough biographical drama, GANDHI (1982) starring Oscar-winning Ben Kngsley, John Gielgud, Candice Bergen, Trevor Howard, John Mills, Martin Sheen, Ian Charleson, Nigel Hawthorne, Daniel Day-Lewis, Edward Fox and Geraldine James. GANDHI is one of the last great epics of world cinema employing literally a cast of thousands without CGI. The life and times of Mahatma Gandhi, from young enthusiastic student to world leader seeking non-violent resistance and change is told with a warmth and clarity belying the massive size and scope of the production. The design for this Polish poster features an image of the enlightened one praying as if created from bits of paper floating on air — a subtle and imaginative take on a man whose soul superseded the corporeal. With artwork by Woutan, this original Polish poster is in very fine condition.

ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS (1957) 12764-3

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Allied Artists Scene Lobby Card (11×14) for the Roger Corman science fiction horror classic, ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS (1957) starring Richard Garland, Pamela Duncan, Russell Johnson, and Leslie Bradley. This film tells the story of a group of scientists who travel to a remote island to study the effects of nuclear weapons tests. When they get stranded, they discover that the island has been taken over by enormous crab monsters, who absorb the minds and personalities of their victims. This lobby card is a quintessential example of one of the most popular genres in movie memorabilia — the science fiction movies of the 1950s. While these films may have suffered from inferior acting and special effects, the posters and lobby cards for these opuses define the art of showmanship with rich, colorful and often wildly campy images. This original scene lobby card is in very fine condition.

This is an unusual edition of the German one sheet which was prepared in three different editions. This is the “blue” edition. While this poster is not the original German poster, it does sell well for about a third of what the German one sheet sells for. This copy is unfolded and in very fine condition. Art by Andy Warhol.

CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT (1942) 9329

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

[From wikipedia.com] Captain Midnight was only one of the many aviation serials released in wartime whose leading characters where derived from early pulp magazines and radio favorites. In this serial, Captain Albright is an extremely skilled aviator better known as Captain Midnight, who is assigned to neutralize the sinister Ivan Shark, an evil enemy scientist who is merrily bombing major American cities. Our hero leads the Secret Squadron, whose staff includes only highly-qualified specialists as Chuck Ramsay (Midnight’s ward) and Ichabod ‘Icky’ Mudd (Squadron’s chief mechanic). Shark has developed a highly efficient mercenary organization, being aided by his daughter Fury (highly intelligent and second in command), Gardo (loyal henchman) and Fang (a strong Oriental ally). Unfortunately, Shark is after a new range finder invented by an altruistic scientist, John Edwards, who has a beautiful daughter, Joyce, who is threatened with death for fifteen thrilling episodes, only to be rescued by her own ingenuity or the skill of Captain Midnight at the appropriate last moment.

A very nice one sheet for Chapter 7 “Menacing Fates” with minimal restoration, expertly linen backed.

This Pre-Code film deals frankly with the Eskimo moral code, particularly with their practice of wife sharing. Although the card does have the theater name and play dates; otherwise, this original jumbo window card is paper-backed and in very fine plus condition.
