WILL PENNY (1968) 6285

Original British Quad Poster (30×40).  Near mint condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original British Quad Poster (30x40) for the Tom Gries western romance, WILL PENNY (1968)—starring Charlton Heston, Joan Hackett, Donald Pleasence, Lee Majors, and Bruce Dern. Heston gives his most sincere and sensitive performance as the aging cowboy Penny who falls in love with Hackett after he allows her and her son to share a cabin with him until the spring. All of the performances are quite good, especially Pleaseance and Dern who are frighteningly convincing as a homicidal religious zealot and his psychopathic son. With better artwork that the U.S. one sheet poster, this original British quad poster is in near mint condition.

WEST OF BROADWAY (1931) 5471

Original MGM Scene Lobby Card (11×14).  Fine plus condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original MGM Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Harry Beaumont war drama talkie WEST OF BROADWAY (1931)-- starring John Gilbert, Madge Evans, Lois Moran, Madge Evans, and Gwen Lee. Little has ever been offered on this title. John Gilbert had been a huge silent star for MGM. His career did not flourish in the sound era. In this film he plays a World War I veteran returning home to Manhattan to find that things are not what they were before he went to war, especially with his lady. He takes refuge in the bottle, but finds this is not the way. Redemption comes in the guise of another lady. This is a theme in film that would be repeated often: THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946) for the World War II generation and COMING HOME (1978) for VIet Nam. And most recently in several films of the mideast wars. Gilbert had been a leading man and personal favorite of Greta Garbo. The conventional story is that his high pitched voice was effeminate and did not make the transition to sound well. This scenario doesn't hold up under close examination; rather Gilbert's own demons seemed to undermine his career. This original scene lobby card of Evans, Gilbert, and Lee is in fine plus condition.

VOODOO MAN (1944) 19647

Original Monogram Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41). Linen-backed. Fine plus condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original Monogram Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the William Beaudine horror classic, VOODOO MAN (1944)—starring Bela Lugosi and John Carradine. This is the story of Dr. Richard Marlowe (Lugosi) who uses a combination of voodoo rite and hypnotic suggestion to attempt to revivify his beautiful, but long-dead wife by transferring the life essences of several hapless young girls he has kidnapped and imprisoned in the dungeon beneath his mansion. This was the second Monogram film for Lugosi, and many critics consider this to be his best Monogram film. But while Lugosi delivers a uniformly good performance as the mad doctor, it is John Carradine who steals the show as Lugosi’s dimwitted slave. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine plus condition.

VERTIGO (1958) 7902

Original Universal Pictures 1983 Re-Release One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Folded.  Very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original Universal Pictures 1983 Re-Release One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller masterpiece, VERTIGO (1958)—starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes. This Hitchcock classic tells the story of a former San Francisco detective (Stewart) suffering from acrophobia who investigates the strange activities of an old friend’s wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her. Hitchcock creates some of his most hypnotic scenes in this film as well as a general sense of unease and dread-- even in seemingly banal situations. Bernard Herrmann’s excellent score is a perfect compliment to this complex and suspenseful story. The score is perhaps more important here than it most films, because much of the story is told simply with Stewart’s and Novak’s facial expressions and the music. Stewart gives one of the best performances of his career, and Novak is completely convincing in her dual roles. This original re-release one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
