THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY (1955) 20196
Original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11X14). Very good condition.
This is an original Paramount Pictures Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Alfred Hitchcock comedy thriller, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY (1955)—starring Edmund Gwenn, Mildred Natwick, John Forsythe, and Shirley MacLaine in her first screen roll. While many Hitchcock films had humor in them, this was full-fledged black comedy, which was mostly a subtle satire of 50s morality and conformity. The acting performances are superb and are the most delightful aspect of the film-- as there are no expected Hitchcock action sequences, like a spectacular climax on a national monument or bathtub murders. This scene card is in very good condition, with only minor scuffing and numerous pinholes in the corners. Look for a performance by Jerry Mathers, before he became TV's Beaver!
THE PARADINE CASE (1947) 20188
Original Selznick Releasing Organization Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Very fine condition.
Original Selznick Releasing Organization Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Alfred Hitchcock crime thriller, THE PARADINE CASE (1947)—starring Gregory Peck, Ann Todd, Charles Laughton, Ethel Barrymore, and Alida Valli. Adapted from a novel by Robert Hichens, this is the story of a happily married London barrister (Peck) who falls in love with the accused poisoner (Valli) he is defending. This was Peck’s second and last film for Hitchcock. Laughton gives one of his best performances as the sadistic and malevolent judge. Barrymore received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the judge’s intimidated and submissive wife. This original scene lobby card is in very fine condition. It does have the National Screen Service embossment in the lower right corner.
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1956) 3264
Original Universal Pictures 1983 Re-Release One Sheet Poster (27×41). Folded. Very fine condition.
Original Universal Pictures 1983 Re-Release One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller, THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1956)—starring James Stewart, Doris Day, Brenda De Banzie, and Bernard Miles. Hitchcock had already made this story in a British film in 1934. It chronicles a family vacationing in Morocco who accidentally stumbles on to an assassination plot. But, the conspirators are determined to prevent the family from interfering. The only Oscar the film won was for the Best Original Song, “Que Sera, Sera” which was sung by Doris Day, who at first refused to record the song, dismissing it as “a forgettable children’s song.” When she did finally record the song, it became the biggest hit of her recording career and her signature song. This original re-release one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (1951) 13777
Original Warner Bros. Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Linen backed. Fine plus condition.
Original Warner Bros. Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (1951)—starring Farley Granger, Ruth Roman, and Robert Walker. You do my murder and I'll do yours. This is the nasty bargain that Farley Granger and Robert Walker make in one of our favorite Hitchcock films. There's a subliminal homosexual subtext from the fawning Walker and a snotty above-it-all knowingness from Granger that make this one of the most delicious and scary of Hitchcock's 1950s masterpieces. The story came from the novel by Patricia Highsmith, author of the equally lurid THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY. We think that the three sheet is one of the best posters on the film. This poster is linen backed with some minor restoration at the fold lines and other touch-up. Fine plus condition.
STAGE FRIGHT (1950) 20193
Original Warner Bros. Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Very fine condition.
Original Warner Bros. Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Alfred Hitchcock crime thriller, STAGE FRIGHT (1950)—starring Jane Wyman, Marlene Dietrich, Michael Wilding, and Richard Todd. Set in London, this is the story of a struggling actress (Wyman) who tries to help a friend (Todd) prove his innocence when he’s accused of murdering the husband of a high society entertainer. Making wonderful use of black comedy, this film boasts excellent performances from Wyman shifting effortlessly from aspiring actress to love struck protectress, from Dietrich who is hilariously catty as the flamboyant theater star, and Todd who is wickedly suspicious as the suspected murderer. This original lobby card of Dietrich and Todd is in very fine condition with only some minor rumpling.
SPELLBOUND (1945) 20191
Original United Artists Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Very fine condition.
Original United Artists Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller, SPELLBOUND (1945)—starring Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, Michael Chekhov, and Leo G. Carroll. This film revolves around a female psychoanalyst (Berman) who tries to protect the identity of an amnesia patient (Peck) accused of murder while attempting to recover his memory. With outstanding performances, especially from Bergman and Peck who portray one of the great romantic couples of movie history, along with stunning cinematography and an Academy Award winning score from Miklos Rozsa – all make this film very memorable. The film had five other Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Hitchcock. This original scene lobby card is in very fine condition.
ROPE (1948) 20190
Original Warner Bros. Scene Lobby Card (11×14). Fine condition.
Original Warner Bros. Scene Lobby Card (11x14) for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller, ROPE (1948)—starring James Stewart, Joan Chandler, John Dall, and Farley Granger. Brandon (Dall) and Phillip (Granger) strangle their “inferior” classmate, hide his body in their apartment, and invite his friends and family to a dinner party. As the evening wears on, Brandon becomes ever bolder, while Phillip begins to regret what they have done. The plot is simple, the characters complex, and Hitchcock’s treatment of the Leopold and Loeb parallel quite deft. This original scene lobby card is in fine condition-- with numerous pinholes, some surface wear, and minor staining.
