NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) 14934

Original MGM 30×40 Poster.  Mounted to stiff board.  Fine plus condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is a rare 30x40 poster for the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959), starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, Leo G. Carroll, James Mason, and Martin Landau. One of the most famous of Hitchcock's films of the 1950s, NORTH BY NORTHWEST is endlessly entertaining. Quoting from THE MOTION PICTURE GUIDE: "One of Hitchcock's best, NORTH BY NORTHWEST has everything - thrills, suspense, intrigue, mystery, humor and no little comedy, black as a coal pit, of course, in keeping with the darkly whimsical perspective of that pantheon director. Grant, Saint, Mason and Carroll are simply marvelous in their intricate roles, and, aside from Grant, it's hard to tell whether they're good or bad until the film has dragged the viewer feet-first into the complex plot. Peril of the common man or not-so-common man is always at the apex of any Hitchcock tale and this film is no exception." This is one of the trickiest of Hitchcock films and his last film with Cary Grant. The famous finale on Mount Rushmore and the crop duster buzzing Cary Grant are among the most famous Hitchcock screen moments. The film was produced by Ernest Lehman and has an unforgettable score by Bernard Herrmann. We are giving this poster a Fine Plus rating only because it is mounted to a board. It presents beautifully as is, but MovieArt will pay to have the poster removed and paperbacked if the customer desires. Better and more desired than the one sheet which is only printed in duotone. And much scarcer.

NIAGARA (1953) 385

Original 20th Century Fox Twenty-Four Sheet Poster (9′x20′). Linen-backed on three panels. Very Fine.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
This is an original 20th Century Fox Twenty-Four Sheet Poster (9’x20’) for the Henry Hathaway film-noir thriller, NIAGRA (1953)—starring Marilyn Monroe, Joseph Cotton, and Jean Peters. A remarkable artifact of the U.S. motion picture industry, this extremely large and rare exterior billboard displays a huge image of the greatest sex goddess-star the world has ever known - Marilyn Monroe. This suspenseful story of love, betrayal, and murder is set against the magnificent backdrop of Niagara Falls. While Monroe is sexy and seductive garbed in a most revealing wardrobe, she demonstrates convincingly that she can also play serious roles. Indeed, this is the only movie in which her character dies in the end. NIAGARA is considered a film noir. Joseph Cotten gives a typically impressive performance as the abusive and unstable husband, and Jean Peters, who took the role originally meant for Anne Baxter, delivers an excellent performance as a totally unsuspecting honeymooner who inadvertently gets caught up in Monroe/Cotten intrigue. This original twenty-four sheet poster is linen-backed on three panels and is in very fine condition. This billboard is extremely large -- nine by twenty feet.

MURDER, MY SWEET (1944) 19345

Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41×81).  Restoration to correct pinholes in the corners, fold wear, small tears in the borders, and a chip out of the left border.  Linen-backed.  Fine to very fine condition.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Edward Dmytryk film-noir thriller, MURDER, MY SWEET (1944)—starring Dick Powell, Claire Trevor, and Ann Shirley. RKO was on the verge of bankruptcy when it signed aging matinee idol Powell to make a series of musicals. Powell only signed under the proviso that he could play a dramatic role first, so he was cast as detective Philip Marlowe in this stylish adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel. The art of this original three sheet poster is the best on the title with a stunning shot of Trevor in a negligee and bold title graphics. The poster has been restored to correct pinholes in the corners, fold wear, small tears in the borders, and a chip out of the left border. This original three sheet poster is linen-backed and in fine to very fine condition. Seriously one of the great U.S. film noir posters.

MONOLITH MONSTERS (1957) 6421

Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41).  Fair condition only; needs linen backing.  Art by Reynold Brown.

Additional DescriptionMore Details
Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the John Sherwood sci-fi horror thriller, MONOLITH MONSTERS (1957)—starring Lola Albright, Grant Williams, and Les Tremayne. This sci-fi classic is a pleasant change from the giant-creatures-run-amuck and aliens-invade-the-world movies of the 1950s. This film has a unique menace—meteor fragments that grow into huge monoliths when exposed to water and then turn people into stone. It was originally released as a double feature with LOST SLAVES OF THE AMAZONS (1957). Famous Hollywood director Jack Arnold wrote the original story on which this film is based, and the film also boasted some of the best special effects of the day. The art for this poster is by Reynold Brown.
