This film was shot on a very low budget in the summer of 1973—the era of the war in Vietnam, plane hijackings, the Watergate fiasco, racial conflict, terrorism, and revolution. The story revolves around a group of young people who return to the nostalgic home of their childhood only to stumble into the raw and irrational cruelty of the modern world. They are systematically hunted down and terrorized by a chainsaw wielding killer and his family of grave-robbing cannibals. The actors are always believable, and the exceptional cinematography of Daniel Pearl creates an unrelenting experience of sensory overload.
