Original Belgian Poster (14x21) for the Michael Curtiz romantic classic, CASABLANCA (1942) starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, and Claude Rains. This title has become America's most popular and beloved film of all time not only because of an inspired script, but also superlative performances by all, a wonderful score by Max Steiner, and faultless direction by Director Curtiz. This turbulent love story with harrowing intrigue opened on Thanksgiving Day in 1942 at the Hollywood Theater in New York three weeks after the Allies landed at Casablanca. The film catapulted the beautiful Swedish actress Bergman into superstar status. The film also advanced Bogart from his former gangster roles to the first of many romantic leads. Bergman had never worked with Bogart before this film and never would again. The movie received eight Academy Award nominations including Best Actor for Bogart, and Best Supporting Actor for Rains. The film won Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. This original Belgian poster is in fine plus condition, but showing some wear. We think it would benefit from linen backing. Because of it's relatively small size, linen backing would not be particularly expensive here. There are two editions of the post-war Belgian poster on this title. This is the second printed edition. Ask us about linen backing! We can recommend good conservationists who will do a fine job.
