Besides directing, Melford was also a character actor throughout his career, continuing until 1960. In this film, Hoot Gibson plays a confidence man posing as a lawyer selling phony law books. Complications arises when he has to defend a young man falsely accused of robbery. This original stone lithograph six sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.
THE ALAMO (1960) 19364
Original United Artists Roadshow Todd AO-marked One Sheet poster (27×41). Some pinholes, minor wear and soiling. Very fine condition.
Original United Artists Roadshow Todd-AO marked One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the John Wayne western epic, THE ALAMO (1960)—starring Wayne, Richard Widmark, Laurence Harvey, and Frankie Avalon. Filmmakers have attempted the story of the Texas Freedom Fortress several times, but this 1960 movie filmed in the Todd-AO process is the most famous and arguably the most enjoyable. Certainly most Texans think so. John Wayne directed himself and a good cast in the myth-enhancing version of the Texan settlers’ battle against Mexican authority. An entire community was built in Bracketville, Texas to stand in for early San Antonio and the most of the film was made in Texas. With Richard Widmark as James Bowie and Laurence Harvey as a dandified Colonel William Barrett Travis, the film also pays some homage to the Hispanic Texas settlers who figured in the epic battle. The film rested almost entirely on Wayne's shoulders, but his old mentor John Ford also showed up on the set and was given some second-unit work. One of the most enduring things about the film is a lovely melodic score by Dimitri Tiomkin. This stunning one sheet, with artwork by the great Reynold Brown, is the very rare Todd A-O Roadshow poster. It has some pinholes in the corners, very minor wear and soiling, but overall is in very fine condition.

(McCrea in one of his best performances) and his wife (Drew). Grey’s congregation includes some of Hollywood’s finest character actors of the time. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine condition with only some fold separations.
STAGECOACH (1966) 19150
Original 20th Century Fox Window Card (14×22). Norman Rockwell artwork. Very fine condition.
This is an original 20th Century Fox Window Card (14x22) for the Gordon Douglas western, STAGECOACH (1966)—starring Ann-Margret, Red Buttons, Mike Connors, Alex Cord, and Bing Crosby. This film is a remake of the 1939 John Ford classic of the same name; indeed, this new version uses the original 1939 Dudley Nichols screenplay. The story is about a group of unlikely traveling companions on the same stagecoach to Cheyenne. Even though they all have secrets, they discover that they must work together to stay alive when they are set upon first by Indians and then by a family of outlaws. The cast is well chosen, and they all give excellent and believable performances. Young Ann-Margret is quite memorable as the sultry-but-sweet Dallas, a fallen woman who would love a chance at redemption. This is also Bing Crosby’s last film, a non-singing role as a disgraced, alcoholic doctor. Norman Rockwell had done a series of portraits of the characters for the main titles of the film and these were used on the posters. For his work he was rewarded with a small cameo in the movie - the only time he ever appeared in a film. With the artwork by Rockwell, this original window card is in very fine condition.
SQUARE SHOOTER (1935) 14735
Original Columbia Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81). Stone lithograph. Linen-backed. Very fine condition.
This is an original Columbia Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the David Selman romantic western, SQUARE SHOOTER (1935)—starring Tim McCoy, Julie Bishop, Erville Alderson, Jacqueline Wells, and John Darrow. Col. Tim McCoy starred in many great westerns beginning in the silent era in THE THUNDERING HERD (1925) and continuing through the mid-1960s. Before enlisting in the army, he had moved to Wyoming where he became an expert horseman and also an authority on Native American tribes in the area. When he was asked to provide Indian extras for the western extravaganza, THE COVERED WAGON (1923), he began a Hollywood career as technical advisor and actor. In this classic western, he plays Tim Baxter who, after being framed for murder, returns from prison to clear his name and retrieve the ranch taken from him in a forged will. This original stone lithograph three sheet poster is linen-backed and in very fine condition.
