This film tells the story of a small-town teen, Dave, who is obsessed with the Italian cycling team and who vies for the affections of a college girl. The film also deals with Dave and his charming misfit group of friends who are all trying to decide what to do with their lives, having just graduated from high school. This timeless coming of age drama is told with extraordinary craft, honesty, and sensitivity. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards—including Best Picture, Best Director for Yates, Best Music, and Best Supporting Actress for Barrie. Steve Tesich won the Oscar for Best Screenplay. This enduring anthem to the power of ragtime was written by Irving Berlin and sung by Alice Faye. Although the image is slightly eclipsed, the original sheet music has not been trimmed in any way and is in very fine condition.

This is an original 20th Century Fox Style B One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Mel Brooks classic parody of early Universal horror-sci-fi films, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974)—starring Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Friedman, Cloris Leachman, and Teri Garr. Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson (Wilder), after years of living down the family heritage, inherits his grandfather’s castle and his record of his experiments into reanimation. Brooks wanted everything to look just like the original James Whale version; so, he used similar sets, black-and-white photography, and similar music to the original film. All of the cast are absolutely wonderful, especially Madeline Kahn who gives a bravura performance as the doctor’s fiancée. This original style B one sheet poster is in fine condition with only some minor distresses and small tear at the fold lines and some tape on the bottom border.

Belgian original poster (35mm) for the Joseph L. Mankiewicz historical epic, CLEOPATRA (1963) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Rex Harrison. Originally this film was supposed to be two three hour movies—the first dealing with Caesar and Cleopatra and the second with Antony and Cleopatra. But Fox, reeling from the exorbitant cost overruns associated with this budgetary debacle, decided to release one four hour movie instead. Elizabeth Taylor’s original contract stipulated that she was to be paid $1 million. But after a lengthy $50 million lawsuit brought by the studio against Burton and Taylor and then a countersuit by Taylor, the studio finally settled with the actress for $7 million. A painting by Howard Terpning was used worldwide for the CLEOPATRA advertising campaign. The poster is in fine plus condition. Linen backing would make this poster shine! Eight Original 20th Century-Fox British Front of House Cards (8×10) for the Carol Reed historical biography, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTACY (1965) starring Charlton Heston, Rex Harrison, Diane Cilento, and Harry Andrews. Based on the novel by Irving Stone, this film chronicles Michelangelo’s (Heston) commission to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Pope Julius II (Harrison). Heston and Harrison are wonderful in their parts, and the film had many other fine qualities that resulted in five Oscar nominations. These original British front of house cards are fine plus to very fine.

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Roy Del Ruth romantic drama, PRIVATE NUMBER (1936) starring Loretta Young, Patsy Kelly, Robert Taylor, and Basil Rathbone. Young is hired as a servant and then falls in love with Robert Taylor, who is the son of the family for whom she works. Rathbone is deliciously evil as the tyrannical butler who has designs on Young. This original stone lithograph one sheet poster is folded and in very fine plus condition.

Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Edward Bernds science fiction horror film, SPACE MASTER X-7 (1958) starring Bill Williams, Lyn Thomas, and Robert Ellis. This film chronicles a space probe that returns to earth covered with a strange fungus, which accidentally gets tinged with human blood and is then transformed into an ever-growing space rust. Fox used this low-budget film as a co-feature for its horror blockbuster THE FLY (1958). The British poster is a stone litho. Relatively late for this printing method — and the art is different, more charming than the U.S. posters. The poster is folded and in fine plus to very fine condition. The sequel to the popular ROMANCING THE STONE (1984), this film will remind some members of the audience of the “On the Road” movies of the forties with Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Dorothy Lamour but with better effects and even more funny one liners.
