Original American International Pictures Three Sheet Poster (41×81) for the William Asher musical comedy, HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI (1965) starring Annette Funicello, Dwayne Hickman, Brian Donlevy, Harvey Lembeck, and Frankie Avalon. This was the last AIP “beach” musical to feature Funicello and Avalon. Alas, the surfing fad had crested and was now being replaced by a renewed interest in the motorcycle subculture. Funicello, who was pregnant at the time of the filming, looks too old to be hanging out at the beach. Avalon was also tired of playing an over-aged teenager and wanted to do something new in his career. So, AIP brought in Dwayne Hickman to be Annette’s new love interest, but the two just didn’t have the chemistry that Annette and Frankie had in the earlier films. After this film, Annette retired to raise a family, and Frankie attempted to play more serious roles. This original three sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.

Good girl hanging around with the wrong crowd in order to fit it, plus add a little romance and some inevitable violence—it all adds up to the kind of drive-in movie you would take your date to in order to make out. He has been horribly disfigured during an African voodoo ceremony, and , as a result, has gone completely mad. After faking his death, he seeks revenge on those he feels are responsible for his condition. The film was besieged by a number of production problems. Screenwriter Lawrence Huntington died shortly after completing the script. Also, Gordon Hessler replaced the original director Michael Reeves because of his dependence on drugs and suicidal tendencies. Reeves actually did commit suicide in February of 1969 during the pre-production of the film. This half sheet is folded and in fine condition; fold lines are apparent as in the photograph.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original American International One Sheet Poster (27×41) for Michael Reeves’ horror film THE CONQUEROR WORM (aka WITCHFINDER GENERAL/1968) starring Vincent Price, Ian Ogilvy, Patrick Wymark and Wilfred Brambell. This was one of a handful of films made by British director Michael Reeve before his untimely death from a drug overdose. Based on this terrifying and powerful film, his career might have been extremely productive if not acclaimed. Here, Vincent Price portrays an evil and calculating “Witchfinder General” riding the English Countryside in search of witches to prosecute and destroy. This tale of sadism, violence, and torture is not for the lighthearted but the quality of the direction and performances lend it a aura of authenticity. Director Reeves asked Vincent Price to tamp down the level of his histrionics resulting in one of the finest performances of the actor’s career. Note: the title THE CONQUEROR WORM was from a poem by Edgar Allen Poe. This was used in the United States to tie the film in with a series of Poe adaptations AIP had successfully promoted throughout the 1960s. The poster is folded and in near mint condition.
