OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Belgian Poster (14×22) for the Edward Ludwig action adventure, WAKE OF THE RED WITCH (1948) starring John Wayne, Gail Russell, Gig Young, Adele Mara, and Luther Adler. Set in the Dutch West Indies around 1860, the story revolves around a bitter rivalry between sea captain Wayne and ship owner Adler. Wayne plays one of the most sinister and cruelest characters of his career. He is alternately charming and broodingly malevolent, given to alcohol-fueled bouts of violence and self-loathing, his motivations often morally ambiguous. This original Belgian poster is linen-backed and in very fine plus condition.

In this first film produced by Wayne, he plays a gunslinger and Russell plays a Quaker woman. When Wayne gets wounded in a bank robbery, he ends up knocking at the door and is nursed back to health by her. Wayne gives one of the best performances of his career, and Russell’s natural “angelic” qualities are memorable as well. Beautiful art on this Belgian poster. Linen-backed and in very fine plus condition.

And while this film has lots of comic mayhem, it also has a developed story, multiple sets, location shooting, a love story, and even a full-size structure fire. This original scene lobby card is in very good condition with multiple pinholes and some edge-wear. Otherwise, the condition is quite good.

Original Republic Pictures Title Lobby Card (11×14) for the Joseph Kane B-western, THE CARSON CITY KID (1940) starring Roy Rogers, George “Gabby” Hayes, Bob Steele, and Pauline Moore. Rogers plays the Carson City Kid, who is seeking vengeance on the man who killed his brother. That man turns out to be the saloon owner, a generic part in many westerns and only made memorable by the charisma of the specific actor playing the role. Roy only sings one song in this film, a duet with the heroine (Moore). Roy had not yet met Dale Evans, and the studio matched him with a number of different leading ladies. This original title lobby card is fine plus condition, with only a small chip missing from the upper right corner.

Original Republic Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the William Beaudine musical comedy, CUBAN FIREBALL (1951) starring Estelita Rodriguez, Warren Douglas, Mimi Aguglia, and Leon Belasco. Pretty Cuban-born entertainer Estelita Rodriguez began a show business career at age nine. She was signed early on to an MGM contract, but made no films for MGM. Later she caught the attention of Herbert J. Yates at Republic and was signed to a five year contact there. Screenwriter Charles Roberts, who had guided the career of another stormy player, Lupe Velez, fashioned this film for Rodriguez. She began calling herself simply Estelita, but her career never really took off. She died in Los Angeles in 1967. MovieArt has several copies of this one sheet and also at least one three sheet. Please inquire as to condition. This copy is good condition only. This poster is a theater-used copy, with some distresses and small holes and pinholes.
