A screen actress (Lamarr) has fallen for the young extra (George Nader) who saved her life on the set of her most recent film. Unfortunately, her daughter (Powell) becomes involved with her new beau and the two women compete childishly for his affections. full.therarebreed-1sh-16556

Original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Andrew V. McLaglen western, THE RARE BREED (1966) starring James Stewart, Maureen O’Hara, Brian Keith, and Juliet Mills.  Headstrong widow Martha Price (O’Hara) and her daughter (Mills) together with their prize bull travel from England to Texas to sell their bull and thus introduce Hereford cattle to the American west.  Along the way, they meet a cynical and hard-bitten drifter Sam Burnett (Stewart) who helps them on their adventure.  Though fictionalized, the film is a fairly accurate account of the displacement of Longhorn cattle in Texas by intentional interbreeding with more conventional bulls.  This is certainly one of the original “chick flicks” as the story is told from the point of view of the female heroine (Mills).  This original one sheet poster is in very good condition.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Universal Pictures Advance One Sheet Poster (27×41) for the Robert Zemechis science fiction adventure, BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II (1989) starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson. When BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985) was originally conceived, writer and director Zemechis had no idea how much notoriety it would eventually achieve nor the box office records it would break. Because of this success, there now had to be the inevitable sequels. What Zemechis came up with is every bit as whimsical as the original movie, but the pace of the action is quite brisk. This original advance poster is folded and in very good condition, with minor fold distresses and minor rumpling.

SPARTACUS (1960) 5381 JOHN GAVIN

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Original Universal Pictures 70mm Roadshow Half Sheet Poster (22×28) of John Gavin as the young Julius Caesar for the Stanley Kubrick Roman epic, SPARTACUS (1960) starring Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons, Charles Laughton, Peter Ustinov, and John Gavin. Stanley Kubrick replaced original director Anthony Mann, but it was really Kirk Douglas as Executive Producer who made many of the decisions. The film is a marvelous retelling of the revolt in 73 B.C. at a gladiatorial school, which mushrooms into a crisis for the Roman Republic. Opposing political factions by Olivier and Laughton try to use the revolt to further their political ends. Besides outstanding performances from the entire cast and expert direction by Kubrick, the film has beautiful cinematography by Russell Metty and a brilliant score by Alex North. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards and won five Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor to Ustinov and Best Cinematography to Metty. We have graded this poster as Very Good Plus. There is some paper abrasion near the top center. Colors are vivid. Some edge wear. This poster would be improved with Linen Backing. Roadshow posters are much more difficult to acquire than 35mm release material for this film – and better looking as well.
